The Renaissance of Elegant Travel to Eastern Europe and Russia

Norway

Norwegians are natural explorers and this spirit is woven into Oslo’s cityscape. Oslo, the country's capital, is dramatically set around the innermost part of Oslofjord. The city is home to royal family and is small enough to be intimate and special, yet large enough to offer world-class dining and extraordinary attractions, including the Vigeland Sculpture Park. Relive the exploration of some of history's greatest adventures, from the Vikings to Thor Heyerdahl.

On the west coast of Norway sits the beautiful city of Bergen with its old timber houses, narrow alleys, and bustling port. The city's wharf buildings are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites and the city is famous for its fresh fish. We suggest traveling between Oslo and Bergen by rail; the line travels across the roof of Norway and is one of the world's most spectacular  rail journeys. En route, you may stop off at Voss and experience the Flam Railway - one of the steepest of its kind. If you really want to remove yourself from the urban landscape, we suggest an overnight in Balestrand- this tiny fishing village is reached by boat and is the getaway to many of the enormous glaciers that dot the region.

From simple day trips to the fjords surrounding Bergen to multi-day journeys into the norht of the country, Norway provides a fascinating opportunity to submerse yourself into a culture of adventurers and explorers. For the true adventurous spirit we recommend Spitsbergen, an Arctic Circle island that is truly breathtaking.
